Lucy Chaffer from Australia leads a very strong field of 23 women’s sliders. Sarah Reid and Mellisa Hollingsworth sit second and third representing Canada, while Marion Thees and Donna Creighton round out the top five.
The USA’s Katie Uhlaender and Kimber Gabryszak sit 12th and 16th, respectively, while Cassie Hawrysh is the third Canadian slider, and she finishes the first heat in 13th. Great Britain had a solid first run, placing three sliders in the top 10, with Creighton leading the way. World Cup champ Shelley Rudman and Lizzy Yarnold sit 8th and 9th, respectively.
Top 20 sliders will run heat 2, taking a combined time, while the top 10 will have a one-heat slide-off tomorrow.
