2016 IBSF Para-Bobsled World Championships

From Park City, USA

Lonnie Bissonnette backed up an overall world cup title with a IBSF World Championship, showing the same form over the for heats as he had all season long.

The Canadian was quickest in three of the four runs, edging Latvian Alvils Brants at every turn to take gold. Bissonnette struggled in the second heat, where a fourth-fastest run could have possibly sank his gold medal hopes. But Brants also struggled on his second run, coming down tenth fastest to put him well behind the Canadian. Brants couldn’t make up the ground lost in that run, and would have to settle for silver, ahead of teammate Arturs Klots, who finished in the bronze medal position.

Australian Mark Urquhart finished fourth, ahead of the entire American squad. Steven Jacobo was the top-finishing American in fifth, with Jason Sturm and Aaron Lanningham finishing right behind him in sixth and seventh, respectively.

British slider Corie Mapp finished tenth.
