2016/2017 IBSF World Cup – Women’s Bobsled – Race 1

From Whistler, CAN

Kaillie Humphries started the 2016/2017 World Cup season the way she left it last season: Out front.

The Canadian led in both heats to take gold, setting the fastest time in both heats.  Austrian Christina Hengster finished second, leapfrogging American Jamie Greubel Poser, who had a couple of big skids on her second run to move into third.

Humphries set a start record in the first heat with a 5.09 push, and it was briefly topped by Elana Meyers Taylor and a 5.06 start. Meyers Taylor flipped her sled through theh corner named 50/50 and lost brakewoman Kehri Jones in the process. With Jones coming out of the back, her run was disallowed and the start time with it.

Canadian Alysia Rissling finished fourth in her World Cup debut. She had won her last three North American Cup races leading up to the World Cup opener. Nadezhda Sergeeva and Aleksandra Rodionova finished fifth and sixth for Russia.

Brittany Reinbolt finished seventh for the United States, just ahead of Mica McNeill of Great Britain, who finished eighth.
