FIL World Cup Event in Whistler Drops Team Relay, Adds One Heat Races

From Whistler, CAN

The saga of the trapped sleds continues on the way to Whistler.

As earlier reported, a large snowstorm across the Canadian Prairies caused major road blockages along the route in which the truck carrying athlete sleds was taking. The truck was not able to make it any further than Brandon, Manitoba. After it became apparent that the truck wouldn’t be able to make it in time, the FIL decided to charter the sleds from Winnipeg to Vancouver, with the sleds arriving sometime Friday.

So with delays reaching into mid-Friday, the FIL made the decision to scrap the Team Relay event and condense the men’s, women’s, and doubles events all into a one-heat event. All three one-heat races will take place on Saturday, December 10. This will give athletes time to, in theory, get practice runs on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, with races happening Saturday evening.
