2017 FIL World Championships – Doubles Luge

From Igls, AUT

The doubles luge World Championships may have been held in Austria, but Germany owned the day at Igls.

Toni Eggert & Sascha Benecken set the fastest time in both heats on their way to a World Championship gold. Teammates Tobias Wendl & Tobias Arlt came into the second heat in third, but moved up to second after Robin Geueke & David Gamm had a bit of trouble at the bottom of their run. Geueke & Gamm finished third.

Peter Penz & Georg Fischler finished fourth on home ice, well ahead of Italians Ludwig Rieder & Patrick Rastner, and the Russian team of Alexander Denisyev and Vladislav Antonov.

In the two runs for doubles luge, the three German teams had five of the six fastest runs, with the Penz & Fischler having the other run.

Tristan Walker & Justin Snith finished ninth as the top-scoring North American doubles team. The Americans struggled, with Justin Krewson & Andrew Sherk finishing 14th as the top USA entry. Matt Mortensen & Jayson Terdiman finished 21st, while Jacob Hyrns & Anthony Espinoza finished 22nd.

The British team of Adam Rosen & Raymond Thompson finished 29th.
