Pigneter & Clara Stay Perfect on 2017/2018 Season

From St. Sebastian, AUT

(Jan. 21, 2018) The doubles team of Patrick Pigneter & Florian Clara stayed perfect on the season, winning by .57 in St. Sebastian.

Pigneter & Clara carried a .75 of a second advantage over Russians Aleksandr Egorov & Petr Popov into the second heat. Egorov & Popov put the pressure on the Italians with the fastest run of the second heat. Pigneter & Clara responded, finishing .18 behind the Russians in the heat to take their fourth gold medal in as many events this season. Egorov & Popov finished second, .57 back, while Austrians Rupert Brüggler & Tobias Angerer finished third, 2.7 seconds back.

Pavel Porshnev & Ivan Lazarev, Aleksey Martyanov & Ivan Rodin, and Adam Jedrzejko & Patrick Budney rounded out the top six.

Pigneter & Clara’s win gives them a near insurmountable lead going into the final two races of the season. While anything short of a win in Deutschnofen won’t clinch the season for the Italians, a pair of sixth place finishes in the final two events will be enough to win the World Cup title.
