From Königssee, GER
(Dec. 15, 2018) – German Christin Senkel edged out two Canadian Olympians to take gold in the second race of the IBSF European Cup.
Senkel came into the second heat of the race in Königssee just .09 out of the lead time set by Christine De Bruin. On her second run, Senkel set the quick time of the heat to put pressure on the Canadian. de Bruin’s second time was quick, but not enough to hold off the German, giving Senkel her first win of the season.
De Bruin finished second, just a hundredth of a second ahead of teammate Alysia Rissling in third. Rissling moved up from just out of the medals on the strength of a second run just .02 behind Senkel.
German Laura Nolte finished fourth, ahead of Eveline Rebsame in fifth. Qing Yin of China and Alena Osipenko of Russia tied for sixth.
Julie Johnson finished ninth in the third Canadian sled, while Aussie Breanna Walker rounded out the top ten.
