Walker Wins Altenberg Monobob EC Gold

(November 28, 2022) – Breeana Walker edged out Germany’s Maureen Zimmer to win gold in Altenberg.

Walker found herself .28 behind Zimmer entering the second heat. On that second run Walker matched her first heat time of 1:00.83 to move into the lead with only Zimmer to go. Zimmer’s second run was quick off the top, but trouble late dropped her out of the lead and into second by .08, with Walker moving to gold.

Walker’s gold came in her first start of the season, while Zimmer had the two fastest starts of the race on her way to her third straight monobob medal.

Romania’s Andreea Grecu won her second medal in three European Cup monobob starts this season with a bronze.

China’s Qing Ying was leapfrogged by Grecu but finished fourth, while Switzerland’s Martina Fontanive finished fifth. China put both sleds in the top six with Mingming Huai in sixth place.

Australia’s Sarah Blizzard finished 12th, with Great Britain’s Mica Moore and Adele Nicoll in 13th and 14th, respectively.
