Semmler Wins EC 4-man Finale, Wins Title

From Winterberg, GER

(February 18, 2023) – Nico Semmler won the final race of the 2022/2023 IBSF European Cup season, a one-heat race where he also clinched the season championship.

Like in the seventh race, Semmler’s team had the second quickest start of the race, and Semmler once again drove them to the lead. The remainder of the 12 sled field was unable to match the German’s effort as he took his fifth win on the European Cup season.

Mihai Tentea of Romania was the first pilot off in the race and slid to a second place finish, .4 behind Semmler. Frank Del Duca won his second straight medal for the United States with a bronze.

Germany’s Laurin Zern finished fourth, with teammate Alexander Czudaj fifth and Austria’s Jakob Mandlbauer in sixth.

Martin Kranz finished tenth for Lichtenstein for the second race in a row.

With his pair of wins to finish the season, Semmler won the four-man European Cup title ahead of Swiss pilot Timo Rohner. Despite missing the final two races of the year, Latvia’s Emils Cipulis finished the season in third.
