Leipold Wins First ICC Gold, Lölling Wins Season Title

From Igls, AUT

(February 18, 2023) – Corinna Leipold came into the final race of the 2022/2023 IBSF Intercontinental Cup season with 24 starts on tour, and despite winning a myriad of medals on the ICC tour, she’d never struck gold.

That changed in the season finale in Igls, as Leipold cruised to victory in the last race of the season.

Leipold led USA’s Mystique Ro by just .05 after the first heat, with tour point leader Jacqueline Lölling in third, .36 back. In the second heat Lölling slid back into the lead with Ro and Leipold to go. Ro answered with a quick slide of her own, enough to Take the lead by .4.

That left Leipold as the last slider at the top. The German had a competitive push, and as she did in the first heat, slid to the quickest time of the heat and with it her first ICC gold medal.

Leipold’s gold was her seventh straight medal. In 25 ICC events finished out of the top six seven times.

Ro finished second for her second straight medal, while Lölling finished the race in third.

Great Britain’s Amelia Coltman, a medalist a day prior, finished fourth. Sarah Wimmer and Alessia Crippa rounded out the top six.

Despite her victory, Leipold could not quite catch Lölling for the season title. Lölling took the title by 16 points. Coltman finished the season in third place.
