From Lake Placid, USA
(November 18, 2023) – The United States’ Kaysha Love is no stranger to the top of an IBSF two-woman bobsled podium. As a brakewoman she’d won three gold medals on the IBSF World Cup. And now as a pilot she’s won her first two-woman gold medal in Lake Placid on the North American Cup.
Love and brakewoman Jestena Mattson had the second quickest start in both heats, and backed them up with the two fastest runs of the competition on their way to a 1.18 second victory over Canada’s Melissa Lotholz.
Lotholz, with Alex Klein on the brakes, entered the second heat just .34 back but couldn’t quite keep pace on their second run but did hold on for silver.
The gold for Love was her second straight between two-woman and monobob, while Lotholz’s silver was also her second straight.
USA’s Riley Tejcek won the second medal of her career with a bronze. Emily Renna, Tejcek’s brake woman, won her seventh career medal across all tours with her bronze.
The United States’ Lauren Brzozowski and Macy Tarlton finished fourth, just .26 out of the medals, while Sylvia Hoffman and Jasmine Jones finished fifth on the strength of the two quickest pushes of the competition.
Canada’s Erica Voss and Leanna Garcia rounded out the top six.
Canadian pilots Mackenzie Stewart and Kristen Bujnowski rounded out the eight sleds with official times.
Slovakia’s Viktoria Cernanska and Breeana Walker both were disqualified for being just barely overweight.
