2015/2016 FIL World Cup – Doubles Luge – Race 8

From Altenberg, GER

Germany dominated the doubles event in Altenberg, placing two teams in the top two, and three in the top eight.

Though they’ve been on top for most of the season, the team of Wendl & Arlt couldn’t find the pace they needed to take gold in Altenberg, with those honors going to teammates Eggert & Benecken. The latter was the fastest in both heats by over a tenth of a second both times, cruising to a gold medal. Eggert and Benecken could only muster a fifth fastest run in the first heat, with a second-quickest second run moving them up to the silver medal position.

Bronze went to the Austrian team of Penz & Fischler, while the Italian team of Oberstolz & Gruber finished fourth. Canadians Walker & Snith continued their consistent second half of the season with a fifth place finish, just ahead of Latvians Sics & Sics, who finished sixth.

Americans Mortensen & Terdiman finished 13th after a small hiccup on the bottom part of the track set them back to a 19th fastest run in the second heat.
