2015/2016 FIL World Cup – Doubles Luge – Race 9

From Winterberg, GER

Much like their women’s luge counterparts, Germany’s doubles teams went one-two in their final race of the season. The team of Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken dominated the event, putting down the fast time in both heats to cruise to victory ahead of countrymen Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt.

Wendl and Arlt did manage to put down the second fastest run in both heats, and was the only other team to break the 1:27 barrier. Latvian qualifiers Oskars Gudramovics and Peteris Kalnins finished in the bronze medal position, just over a half-second back of Eggert and Benecken.

Alexandr Denisyev and Anton Valdislav finished fourth, hundredths ahead of Robin Geüke and David Gamm. the Italian team of Rieder and Rastner finished sixth.

It was a relatively disappointing end to the FIL season for the American team of Matthew Mortensen and Jayson Terdiman, finishing 11th. Canadians Tristan Walker and Justin Snith finished three spots ahead in eighth.
