From Whistler, CAN
(November 12, 2021) Taylor Austin stayed perfect on his 2021/2022 season, winning the North American Cup season opener in Whistler.
Austin and his team set the fast start in the first heat, and led at every split on his way to a .58 second lead over the United States’ Frank Del Duca. On the second run Austin was even faster, eventually winning by 1.03 seconds over Del Duca.
The win was Austin’s fourth straight to start the season. He opened the season with three straight two-man victories.
Del Duca won silver for the United States. He and his squad had the fast push in the second heat, and was well ahead of anyone else other than Austin.
South Korea’s Youngjin Suk finished third, just ahead of Brazil’s Edson Bindilatti in fourth.
China’s Chunjian Li and Jamaica’s Shanwayne Stephens rounded out the top six.
Tyler Hickey helped put two American sleds in the top ten with his seventh place finish. Pat Norton finished tenth in the second Canadian sled.
