Nolte set the two fastest downtimes of the race on her way to a .17 second victory over teammate Kim Kalicki. Nolte and brakewoman Leonie Fiebig set the quick start time of the second heat and were the quickest at every split on that run to solidify her gold medal, the fifth of her career.

Kalicki finished second, up from fourth in the first heat for her fifth career silver medal.

Canada’s Christine de Bruin came into the second heat in third place. It looked for a moment like she may miss out on a medal after falling behind Kalicki. However Kaillie Humphries couldn’t find speed on her second run and fell back from second to fourth to give de Bruin a bronze medal.

Humphries tied for fourth with Olympic champion Mariama Jamanka, only .01 out of the medals, while Melanie Hasler finished sixth.

Hasler’s top six was at the expense of the United States’ Elana Meyers Taylor, who fell from sixth to seventh despite two runs in the top six.

Canada had a solid day in Yanqing. On top of de Bruin’s medal. Melissa Lotholz worked her way into the top ten with a ninth place effort. Cynthia Appiah finished 12th in her second World Cup start in two-woman bobsled.

Great Britain’s Mica McNeill finished 16th, while Australia’s Ashleigh Werner finished 19th in her World Cup debut.
