Kreher Wins in Park City ICC Action

From Park City, USA

(November 23, 2021) – Susanne Kreher won her first Intercontinental Cup race of the season, edging out teammate Sophia Griebel for top honors.

In a race that closely mirrored the men’s race, Kreher held a slight edge in the first heat, .02 over Canada’s Hallie Clarke and .06 over Griebel and Nicole Silveira, who were tied for third.

On the second run Clarke Griebel slid into the lead, .13 ahead of Silvera and .15 ahead of Clarke, with only Kreher to go. Kreher once again was fastest, but just by .04 in the heat and .1 in the race. It was still enough to give the German her first gold medal of the season.

The gold for Kreher was the seventh ICC gold of her career, and second in Park City. The silver for Griebel was her third straight medal to start the 2021/2022 ICC season. In five starts in Park City Griebel has finished on the podium four times.

Nicole Silveira finished with a bronze medal, her second straight medal on the ICC tour and seventh medal in eight races this season between ICC and North American Cup.

Clarke finished fourth, a quarter second ahead of the United States’ Sara Roderick in fifth. Russia’s Alena Frolova rounded out the top six.

The United States placed all three sliders in the top ten. Savannah Graybill missed out on a top six by .05 and finished seventh, while Kendall Wesenberg rounded out the top ten in tenth.

Canada had a strong showing on American ice in Park City. Behind Clarke’s fourth place run, teammate Madi Charney finished eighth, up from ninth in the first heat.

Sweden’s Leslie Stratton finished 15th, one spot ahead of the US Virgin Islands’ Katie Tannenbaum in 16th.

Liechtenstein’s Katharina Eigenmann finished 20th in her first ICC start.
