Adeagbo Wins 1st IBSF Gold for Nigeria in EC Monobob

From Winterberg, GER

(January 14, 2022) – Simidele Adeagbo won the penultimate Women’s Monobob World Series race of the 2021/2022 season, taking gold in the final monobob race on the European Cup tour.

Adeagbo had the quick push in both heats, and used that to her advantage as she opened up a .27 second lead over Romania’s Georgeta Popescu after one run. In the second heat Adeagbo lowered her push tie by nearly a tenth of a second and again was the quickest at every split on her way to a .52 second victory over Popescu.

The win for Adeagbo was the first for a Nigerian in an IBSF sanctioned race at any level, while the silver for Popescu was a career-best finish.

Ukraine’s Lidiia Hunko finished third, while Julia Slupecka of Poland and Camila Copain of France rounded out the five sled field.

Vietnam’s Tran Thi Doan Trang and Poland’s Linda Weiszewski did not start the event.
