2014/2015 FIBT World Cup – Women’s Skeleton – Race 2

From Calgary, CAN

World Cup newcomer Elisabeth Vathje backed up a silver medal in Lake Placid with a gold medal this weekend in Calgary.  The young Canadian dominated on home ice, cruising to victory over Great Britain’s Laura Deas.  Deas, the third of 3 Brits a week ago, held onto a slight advantage over a pair of German sliders, and managed to hold onto that position after a very solid second run.  Tina Hermann and Sophia Griebel took third and fourth, while Austrian Janine Flock tied for fourth with Griebel.

It wasn’t exactly the day the Americans were looking for north of the border, with Savannah Graybill and Annie O’Shea finishing 11th and 12th for the United States.  Lanette Prediger finished seventh for Canada, while teammate Madi Charney helped Canada place all three sleds in the top 10 on home ice.

Olympic gold medalist and World Cup point leader coming into Calgary Lizzy Yarnold sat this race out with dizziness and looks to rejoin the tour when they make their way to Europe.
