2014/2015 FIBT World Cup – Women’s Skeleton – Race 1

From Lake Placid, USA

Olympic gold medalist LIzzy Yarnold picked right back up where she left off in Sochi, Russia, dominating the women’s skeleton event and winning the first round of the FIBT World Cup handily.  The British standout was the fastest in both runs, easily beating Canadian Elisabeth Vathje.  Vathje, in her first World Cup start on Lake Placid, edged Austrian Janine Flock.  Flock takes yet another medal on the Lake Placid track, having done so in 2013 as well.  Tina Hermann took fourth for Germany, while American Savannah Graybill finished fifth. Graybill had a rough first run, but came back strong with a second-fastest run in Run 2 to move up to 5th.

Annie O’Shea finished ninth, putting both US sleds in the Top 10. Lanette Prediger and Madison Charney finished 11th and 19th, respectively, for Canada.  Rose McGrandle took sixth for Great Britain, while Laura Deas made sure all three British sleds made it into the top 12.
