Fontanive Cruises to First Two-Women Bobsled Gold

From Altenberg, GER

(December 2, 2022) – Swiss pilot Martina Fontanive won her first ever women’s bobsled event in the two-seater, beating out Romania’s Andreea Grecu for top honors.

Fontanive and brakewoman Mara Morell had both the two quickest pushes and the two fastest downtimes of the race on their way to a .71 second victory over the Romanians. Between her time as a brakewoman and a pilot, Fontanive has 81 starts in the discipline across all tours. For Morell, the start was her fifth.

Grecu edged out Germany’s Charlotte Candrix for silver, while Candrix finished with a bronze in her first European Cup start, well ahead of anyone else.

China’s Qing Ying finished fourth, up from sixth. Italy’s Giada Andreutti entered the second heat in third but fell to fifth on the second run.

China’s Mingming Huai rounded out the top six.
