Friedrich had the fastest run of the first heat to open up a .18 second advantage over teammate Johannes Lochner, with Christoph Hafer just ahead of a myriad of medal contenders.

On the second run Brad Hall looked to slide into contention for a medal, but Hafer matched the second run time by Hall to maintain a .03 second advantage. Lochner was next, and while his downtime was only fifth quickest in the second heat, it was more than enough to move into the lead with only Friedrich to go.

Friedrich’s crew gave him a strong start, and the defending European, world, and Olympic champion did the rest, setting the second quickest run of the second heat to easily take gold.

It was Friedrich’s 24th four-man gold medal.

Lochner finished second for silver, his tenth, while for Hafer the bronze was his first World Cup four-man medal.

Brad Hall finished fifth, only .03 out of the medals, while Swiss pilot Michael Vogt had the quickest run of the second heat to jump from sixth to fifth.  That was at the expenst of Markus Treichl, who fell back to sixth for his second straight top six finish.

Frank Del Duca was the top American pilot with a seventh place effort, while teammate Geoff Gadbois finished tied for 11th.

Just ahead of Gadbois, Canada’s Taylor Austin finished tied for ninth with Swiss pilot Simon Friedli.

While the track was as quick as it’s been in quite some time, Friedrich was the only winner all weekend to not break a track record.
