From Peyongchang, KOR
(December 18, 2022) – Alexander Gassner won gold in Pyeongchang, winning handily over teammate Lukas Nydegger.
Gassner, who finished ninth at the Alpensia Sliding Centre during the 2018 Olympic Games, had the quick downtime in both heats on his way to a .4 second victory over Lukas Nydegger.
Gassner’s gold was his third of the Intercontinental Cup season and fifth medal in sixth races. Nydegger’s silver was his third straight medal in four races.
Jacob Salisbury of Great Britain finished third, tying his season best finish.
Austria’s Samy Maier finished fourth, well ahead of Felix Seibel in fifth. Great Britain’s Craig Thompson rounded out the top six.
Canada’s Mark Lynch finished eighth, while teammate David Park finished 15th, up from 16th in the first heat.
American Hunter Williams finished 11th.
With two races left in the Intercontinental Cup season, Alexander Gassner has a commanding lead over Felix Seibel and Craig Thompson, who are currently tied for second. Jacob Salisbury, Rasmus Johansen and Samy Maier round out the top six.
