Rinks & Jegorovs Cruise to Altenberg Victory

From Altenberg, GER

(December 17, 2022) – Latvia’s Kaspars Rinks doubled up on gold medals in Altenberg, winning the men’s doubles gold alongside teammate Vitalijs Jegorovs to go with his men’s singles gold from the same day.

Rinks and Jegorovs led Germany’s Moritz Jäger and Valentin Steudte by nearly .15 going into the second run. On that second trip down the Germans were quicker, but not quick enough as the Latvians were able to keep it close and win on the strength of their first slide.

The gold for Rinks and Jegorovs was their first of the season and gave them the full collection of medals after a silver and bronze earlier in the season in Lillehammer. Jäger and Steudte’s silver was their second straight silver and fourth straight medal.

The United States’ Marcus Mueller and Ansel Haugsjaa won bronze after picking off Germany’s Pascal Kunze and Maddox Götze, who finished fourth.

Italy’s Philipp Brunner and Manuel Weissensteiner finished fifth, while Germany’s Paul Kunze and Max Trippner rounded out the top six.

USA’s Aidan Mueller and Frank Ike finished seventh.

With two races to go in the Junior World Cup season Mortiz Jäger and Valentin Steudte lead by 60 points over Kaspars Rinks and Vitalijs Jegorovs. The United States’ Marcus Mueller and Ansel Haugsjaa are third, only 15 points behind the Latvians.
