2023 FIL World Championship Sprint Results

From Oberhof, GER

(January 27, 2023) – The FIL World Championships began on Friday with the Sprint World Championships taking place for all four disciplines of sliding. Below are the results:

Women’s Doubles
Jessica Degenhardt and Cheynne Rosenthal, the 2022 FIL women’s doubles world champions defended their title with a win over Austria’s Selina Egle and Lara Kipp, winning by just .016 in the one-run race.

Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer of Italy took bronze, only .023 back as the only other team within two seconds of the Germans.

The United States’ Chevonne Forgan and Sophia Kirkby finished sixth, while teammates Maya Chan and Reannyn Weiler finished ninth.

Junior World Cup champions Viktorija Ziedina and Selina Svilna finished eighth.

Men’s Doubles
To the surprise of absolutely nobody, the teams of Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken and Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt finished one-two in the Sprint World Championships in Oberhof.

Eggert and Benecken beat out Wendl and Arlt by .036, while Austria’s Yannick Müller and Armin Frauscher finished third, .069 behind.

Americans Zack Digregorio and Sean Hollander finished tenth, while Canadians Devin Wardrope and Cole Zajanski finished 14th.

Women’s Luge
In what was the most exciting race of the day, Dajana Eitberger edged out Julia Taubitz by just .001 to win the women’s sprint race. Taubitz had taken the lead with only her teammates Merle Fräbel and Eitberger to go. Fräbel finished fourth, behind teammate Anna Berreiter as part of a German sweep of the top four spots.

Madeleine Egle was the top non-German in fifth.

USA’s Brittney Arndt finished eighth as the top American. Ashley Farquharson finished 11th while Summer Britcher finished 15th.

Men’s Luge
Felix Loch took gold in the men’s luge sprint race, ahead of Jonas Müller by .073. Max Langenhan finished third, just ahead of David Glerischer in fourth.

Tucker West, the lone American in the field, finished 12th, while Australia’s Alexander Ferlazzo finished 14th.
