Langenhan Continues Hot Start with Winterberg Win

From Winterberg, GER

(February 11, 2023) – Max Langenhan began his 2022/2023 FIL World Cup season on the bench with a fractured wrist. But since returning to the World Cup tour he’s been on fire and entered the event in Winterberg with three medals in his first three races of the season.

In Winterberg he continued that hot streak with yet another gold medal, his third straight.

The German was the quickest in both heats, including at the start and at every split on his second run, on his way to a .3 second victory over world champion Jonas Müller.

Despite missing the first five events on the calendar, Langenhan’s third gold medal to go with his silver in Sigulda moved him to seventh in the overall World Cup standings.

Behind Langenhan, Müller had to qualify for the race through the Nation’s Cup qualifying race but slid to second place after the first run. His second run was a tick slower, but enough to edge out Germany’s Felix Loch for silver.

Loch, who was battling sickness, put down a strong second effort to move from fifth in the first heat to finish third.

Italy’s Dominik Fischnaller finished fourth, out of the medals by .01. Austria’s Wolfgang Kindl finished fifth, while Italy’s Leon Felderer finished the day in sixth place.

USA’s Jonny Gustafson put down a pair of good slides to finish in tenth. Teammate Tucker West moved up from 13th in the first heat to finish one spot back in 11th.

Kaspars Rinks, the Latvian Junior World Cup standout, crashed in his first heat and did not finish.

In the overall men’s singles standings, Dominik Fischnaller holds a 99 point lead over Felix Loch with three events to go. Wolfgang Kindl, David Glerischer, and Kristers Aparjods round out the top five.
