Pigneter & Clara Win WC Season Finale, Lambachers Edge for Title

From Umhausen, AUT

(February 18, 2023) – Patrick Pigneter and Florian Clara won the FIL World Cup natural track doubles finale in Umhausen, but it was Patrick and Matthias Lambacher who got the last laugh.

In the one-heat race due to warm temperatures, Pigneter and Clara slid to the lead with a blistering 1:22.08 downtime. The final team down, Lambacher and Lambacher, couldn’t match Pigneter and Clara’s time and crossed the line in second place to give their Italian teammates their third gold of the year.

But the Lambachers won the first four events, three World Cup races plus the pursuit in Winterleiten, and that gave them the season title by 15 points over Pigneter and Clara.

Anton Gruber Genetti and Hannes Unterholder finished the race in third, ahead of Slovenia’s Vatevz Vertelj and Vid Kralj in fourth.

In the season points the Slovenian duo beat out Gruber Genetti and Unterholzer for the final spot on the season podium.
