From Lake Placid, USA

(March 23, 2023) – The North American Cup’s final races kicked off in Lake Placid on Thursday with the women’s monobob race, and it was Bree Walker holding off world champion Laura Nolte to win gold on Thursday.

Walker opened up a sizable lead over Nolte. On the second run Nolte, who had won the World Cup event on the Lake Placid ice in December, set the quick time of the heat to slide into the lead ahead of teammate Lisa Buckwitz with only Walker to go.

Walker’s second start wasn’t quite as good as her first, and while her second slide wasn’t as quick as Nolte’s it was enough to give her gold, her first ever in North America.

Nolte took silver, and Buckwitz bronze.

North Americans filled in the rest of the field. USA’s Riley Compton finished fourth, .36 out of the medals. Teammate Lauren Brzozowski finished fifth, while Canada’s Kristen Bujnowski rounded out the top six.

USA’s Sylvia Hoffman finished seventh, while Rushana ills finished eighth.
