Walker Takes Monobob Opener in Lake Placid

From Lake Placid, USA

(November 15, 2023) – Bree Walker kept a streak of monobob medals in North America alive with a win in the opening round of the North American Cup monobob tour in Lake Placid.

Walker took the lead from the second starting spot of the first heat and held it until USA’s Kaysha Love took the top spot by .06 to end the first run.

On the second run Walker put down a quick start and coupled it with a run that was the quickest at every split of the heat to take the lead with only Love to go.

Love answered with a strong push of her own but trouble late in her run dropped her behind the Aussie into the silver medal position, giving Walker the victory.

The gold for Walker was her second in Lake Placid monobob action, and her third medal in as many races.

For Love, the silver medal was her first as a pilot. She’d previously won three gold and two bronze medals in World Cup action as a brakewoman behind Kaillie Humphries.

Canada’s Melissa Lotholz returned to action after taking the 2022/2023 season off and scored her first NAC bronze medal in the monobob. She’d previously won a gold and bronze in the old Monobob World Series in Igls.

USA took the final three extended podium spots, with Lauren Brzozowski holding off Sylvia Hoffman for fourth, with Hoffman and Riley Tejcek rounding out the top six.

Hoffman had the quick start in both heats, tying with Walker in the second run.

Slovakia’s Viktoria Cernanska, Canada’s Erica Voss, South Korea’s Inyoung Park, and Canada’s Eden Wilson and Kristen Bujnowski rounded out the 11 sled field.
