Delka Wins NAC Skeleton Opener

From Lake Placid, USA

(November 17, 2023) – Kellie Delka set the quick time in both heats on her way to her third career IBSF gold medal.

Delka had the second quickest start in both heats. In the first run she beat out American 2012 world champion Katie Uhlaender by .22. The two women were well ahead of the field after that run by well over a second.

On the second run Uhlaender cruised into the lead by over a second and a half with only Delka to go. Delka once again put down a relatively clean run, enough to take the victory by a half of a second over Uhlaender and two seconds over the rest of the field.

Delka’s victory was her second straight in NAC action after five straight races finishing tenth or worse. For Uhlaender, the silver medal was her first non-gold medal in NAC competition. She’d previously won all six of her NAC events dating back to Halloween of 2008 in Park City.

South Korea’s Seokju Yang finished all by herself in third. She had the third quickest starts in both heats and the third fastest downtimes in both heats, and finished over a second ahead of anyone behind her.

The United States took fourth and fifth, with Sha’londa Terry and Logan Wudi in fourth and fifth, while Sujung Hong rounded out the top six for South Korea.

Malta’s Shannon Galea, Finland’s Hannah Russwurm, and Canada’s Mackenzie Adams rounded out the nine sled field.
