Lara Wins First Career Gold in Whistler

(December 1, 2023) – Tirza Lara cruised to her first career victory on home ice in Whistler.

Lara was the only slider in either heat to slide under 55 seconds, with downtimes of 54.99 and 54.98. She held a .11 lead over Columbia’s Laura Vargas, with South Korea’s Seokju Yang only .14 back in third.

On the second run Yang and Vargas flip-flopped spots, with Yang the leader with just Lara to go.

Lara’s second run was nearly identical to her first as she easily slid to victory by .65 over Yang, with Vargas back in third.

All three sliders scored career bests with their medals.

USA’s Logan Wudi finished fourth, well ahead of South Korea’s Sujung Hong in fifth.

Finland’s Hannah Russwurm rounded out the top six.

Mackenzie Adams finished seventh for Canada, while Eire Rowland-Evans made her IBSF senior level debut in eighth.
