2012/2013 FIBT World Cup – Round 5 – Women’s Skeleton

From La Plagne, France

Katie Uhlaender is the first two-time winner of the season, taking La Plagne by almost a half second over Canadian Sarah Reid and German Marion Thees.  Uhlaender didn’t have the quickest starts today, but did put down the quickest time in both heats to add another gold to her Park City medal.

Reid and Thees tie for silver, moving Anja Huber to fourth. Aussie Lucy Chaffer and Russian Olga Potylitsina both jumped a handful of spots on the strength of very quick runs, and finish fifth and sixth, respectively.

“I had some pretty major mistakes, but I kept my runners straight.  It’s a tough field, and a great competition,” Uhlaender said on her run today.

It was a tough day for Kimber Gabryszak, she finishes 18th in her return to the World Cup.    Canadians Mellisa Hollingsworth and Cassie Hawrysh finish 7th and 13th respectively, while British skeleton puts Lizzy Yarnold, Shelley Rudman  and Donna Creighton 8th, 10th & 19th, respectively.
