Lanthaler Wins 24th Straight

(January 20, 2024) – Evelin Lanthaler continued her streak of dominating victories on the FIL Natural Track Luge tour with another victory in Umhausen.

In the previous race, Lanthaler’s two run time would have been good enough for silver in the men’s race. On Saturday, her time would have been good enough for fourth on the men’s side as she won by 2.61 seconds over Austria’s Riccarda Ruetz.

Lanthaler’s first run was enough to open a 1.47 second lead over Lisa Walch or Germany, with Nadine Staffler in third and Daniela Mittermair and Riccarda Ruetz tied for fourth.

In the second heat Ruetz put down a quick second run to take the lead and hold it ahead of Mittermair, Staffler, and Walch.

But Lanthaler’s second run was over a full second ahead of Ruetz’s second effort to take gold.

Lanthaler’s victory was her 24th straight and 35th in her last 36 events.

Ruetz took silver, a career-best on the FIL World Cup circuit, while Mittermair also moved up from fourth into the medals with a bronze.

Italy’s Staffler missed a podium by .33 and finished fourth, while Walch finished fifth.

The United States’ Katie Cookman finished 13th, ahead of Canada’s Nadja Loder in 14th.
