Mueller & Haugsjaa Come From Behind to Win Season Finale

From St. Moritz, SUI

(February 2, 2024) – Marcus Mueller and Ansel Haugsjaa came from behind to take the final gold medal of the Junior World Cup men’s doubles season.

The American duo came into the second heat in third place, .184 behind leaders Faimonds Baltgalvis and Vitalijs Jegorovs, with Germany’s Pascal Kunze and Max Trippner wedged in between in second.

The Americans set the quick downtime of the race in the second heat to take the lead from Italians Philipp Brunner and Manuel Weissensteiner. Kunze and Trippner couldn’t out-slide the Americans and fell in behind them with Baltgalvis and Jegorovs still to go.

The Latvians’ second run was similar to their first, but the Americans’ slide was that much better as they held onto the lead by .051 over the Latvian duo.

The win was the second of the season for Mueller and Haugsjaa and fourth medal in four races. Baltgalvis and Jegorovs’ silver came in their first race of the year.

Kunze and Trippner finished third, giving them a medal in every race over the Junior World Cup season and enough points to win the season title by 110 points over Mueller and Haugsjaa. Americans Logan Barnes and Gavin Davis finished ninth in the race to finish third overall in the season.
