Kim Slides to NAC Gold in Lake Placid

From Lake Placid, USA

(March 6, 2024) – Jinsu Kim slid to his second gold medal of the 2023/2024 IBSF North American Cup two-man bobsled season, holding off a pair of American pilots to take top honors.

Kim and brakeman Hyeonggeun Kim had the quick push in the first heat and slid to a .26 second advantage over the United States’ Kris Horn and Josh Williamson, with Americans Geoffrey Gadbois and Collin Storms the only other team within a second in third.

In the second heat Gadbois drove to the lead ahead of Youngjin Suk and Jonghee Park to give the Americans a guaranteed medal.

Next up were Horn and Williamson. Williamson, making his return to international competition after missing the bulk of the season with an injury, pushed Horn to what would be the second start in each heat as the duo took the lead from Gadbois and Storms.

Finally it was Kim and Kim off the top of Mt. Van Hoevenberg. With the quickest start of the competition Kim, a World Cup bronze medalist earlier in the season in Altenberg, drove the team to a gold medal by .45 over Horn, with Gadbois third.

Jinsu Kim’s gold was his second win on the season and fifth medal in six races on the NAC season. Horn’s silver was his third in the last four races. For Gadbois, his bronze was his third in four races this season.

Suk took fourth, ahead of the duo of Edson Bindilatti and Edson Martins in fifth. Germany’s Hans Peter Hannighofer and Theo Hempel rounded out the top six.

Canada’s Pat Norton and Keaton Bruggeling moved up from eighth in the first heat to finish seventh, just ahead of Shane Fisher and Trevor Chase in eighth.

With one race left in the North American Cup season, Horn leads Kim by 52 points. Israel’s Adam Edelman is third, 72 points behind Kim and 92 points ahead of Pat Norton in fourth.
