From Lake Placid, USA
(March 7, 2024) – After sitting the 2022/2023 IBSF sliding season out, Melissa Lotholz came back into the North American Cup for the 2023/2024 season and immediately started winning medals. Over the first seven races of the women’s monobobs season she finished on the podium with every race.
Lotholz finished her season strong with another victory in the season finale in Lake Placid.
Lotholz slid to a .09 second lead over teammate Kristen Bujnowski, with nobody else within a quarter second of her first run time. In the second heat Lotholz again had the quick time, this time with a push .05 quicker than her first, to take her fifth gold on the women’s monobob NAC season.
Lotholz never finished off of the podium in all five events, and won five of the last six races of the season.
Behind Lotholz, Bujnowski had the two quickest starts of the competition and the only sub-5.9 start times on her way to a silver medal, a half of a second behind Lotholz, but .33 ahead of bronze medalist Inyoung Park.
Korea’s Yooran Kim, and Canada’s Erica Voss and Mackenzie Stewart rounded out the top six.
USA’s Riley Tejeck finished seventh, ahead of Germany’s Maureen Zimmer. USA’s Emily Bradley and Thailand’s Agnese Campeol rounded out the ten sled field.
Lotholz had already locked up the North American Cup monobob title a race earlier, but won the season crown by 190 points over Voss. Park finished the season in third six points ahead of Tejcek in fourth. Bujnowski finished fifth on the season.
