From Altenberg, GER
(February 7, 2025) – Laurin Zern and Alexander Schaller cruised to victory in Altenberg’s two-man Europe Cup race in a race where they led at every split from their first push of the day.
The duo outstarted teammates Moritz Bollmmann and Johannes Reuter by .06 in the first heat, and outslid Alexander Czudaj and Henrik Bosse by .12 after the first run. Tobias Dostthaler and Lukas Koller sat third after the first run, .12 behind Czudaj and the same amount ahead of Bollmann.
The second heat was more of the same, Bollmann took the lead from Italy’s Alex Verginer and Mario Lambrughi, but then was outslid by Dostthaler, who was in turn outslid by Czudaj.
Zern’s second effort nearly mirrored his first, as he tripled the lead over Czudaj for a .36 second victory, with only Dostthaler the only sider within a second behind him in third.
Verginer was fifth, while Great Britain’s NIck Gleeeson and Callum Dixon leapfrogged Romania’s Andrei Turea for sixth.
Zern’s win was his second in two two-man starts, while Czudaj and Dostthaler both found the podium for the second and third time in as many starts, respectively.
With many of the tour’s regulars off, Latvia’s Renars Grantins maintained his six point lead over Maxmilian Illmann with two races to go. Jachym Prochazka moved up to third with a tenth place finish, while Turea’s seventh place finish put him fourth in the points.
