Walker Wins in Monobob Finale, Buckwitz Wins Title

From Lillehammer, NOR

(February 15, 2025) – Bree Walker finished her monobob season on a strong note, as she won her second straight gold medal in Lillehammer.

Walker led Canada’s Cynthia Appiah by .09 after the first heat, with World Cup leader Lisa Buckwitz third, just .15 back.

Buckwitz, who had missed out on her own start record by a hundredth of a second, had a strong second start but a not perfect slide as she took the lead but left the door wide open for the two women ahead of her.

Appiah was next. The Canadian came into the race with only one top six and two top tens to her name on the season, but had put down a strong first run to leave her in the hunt for medals.

Appiah’s second run wasn’t as clean as her first, but she was .02 quicker on her second start and that ended up making the difference as she slid to the lead by just .01 ahead of Buckwitz for her first medal of the season.

Finally it was Walker’s turn. She’d shared gold with Kaysha Love a week prior, and early in her second run she looked like she might share again. Her start was .04 slower than Appiah’s, and early on she gave some time away to the Canadian. But Walker was clean at the bottom of her run, and that was enough to give the Australian her second straight monobob gold to finish the season.

It was Walker’s third gold medal in total, and 12th medal overall in the single seaters. For Appiah, the silver was her second, and seventh overall.

Buckwitz’s bronze was medal number 14 for the German.

Switzerland’s Melanie Hasler had the quick run of the second heat on her way to a fourth-place finish, up from fifth in the first heat. Hasler edged out Laura Nolte by a hundredth for the spot as Nolte finished fifth. Austria’s Kati Beierl rounded out the top six, up from eighth in the first heat.

Canada’s Melissa Lotholz was seventh in the season finale, while Erica Voss finished 13th, one spot behind Germany’s Kim Kalicki.

Great Britain’s Adele Nicoll slid from 13th to ninth in the second heat.

Lisa Buckwitz finished the season as the World Cup champion for her second straight Crystal Globe. Bree Walker finished the season second, a personal best, while Laura Nolte was third. Kim Kalicki and Kaysha Love rounded out the top five.
