From Igls, AUT
(November 25, 2025) – The IBSF announced on Tuesday that the skeleton portion of the Igls race weekend, scheduled for Friday, had been canceled.
In an athletes meeting on Tuesday morning a majority of athletes voted to cancel the race, citing inadequate track preparation over the weekend leading up to race week. Official training had been canceled on Monday, with athletes being given four total runs on Wednesday on the partially renovated track that had only recently been homologated.
Some athletes took to social media to voice their displeasure with the situation, stating that the track was fine and could be raced on, with others saying that there wasn’t enough time to be on a new portion of the track before a competitive race in an Olympic year.
The IBSF does not yet have a plan for when or where the makeup race will be. The tour is already on a tight schedule with only seven races on its calendar after Königssee was unable to be ready in time for the season, and there will need to be a way to get a seventh race in prior to the Olympics for qualification purposes alone. Realistically the most logical option would be to have a double race weekend alongside bobsled with a skeleton race on Friday, and then another one on Saturday. Alternately, a Thursday-Friday skeleton only weekend could be on the table as well.
Currently bobsled will host their four races in Igls on Saturday and Sunday before the tour takes a weekend off to travel to Lillehammer and then Sigulda.
