Eggert and Müller took the lead midway through the first heat, a tenth ahead of Juri Gatt and Riccardo Schöpf. Six sleds later, Wendl and Arlt took to the ice and opened up a .06 second lead on their teammates. Behind the two German teams, Yannick Müller and Armin Frauscher and the team of Hannes Orlamünder and Paul Gubitz rounded out the top five after the first heat.

The second heat saw Martins Bots and Roberts Plume break up the Germany-Austria top five after sliding to the lead from seventh place and then holding their position past both teammates Eduards Sevics-Mikelsevics and Lukas Krasts as well as Müller and Frauscher.

Gatt and Schöpf took the lead from their third to last starting spot to guarantee Austria at least one medal with the two German squads still to go.

Eggert and Müller were next, and while their second effort wasn’t quite as quick and clean as their first, it was still quicker than Gatt and Schöpf as the duo took the lead from the Austrians with just Wendl and Arlt still to go.

The Bayern Express pulled off from the top for their second run with the quickest start of the competition, and the duo were quickest at every split along the way, crossing the finish line over a quarter of a second ahead of Eggert and Müller, with Gatt and Schöpf third.

Wendl and Arlt’s gold was their second straight and fourth medal in six races.

Eggert and Müller’s silver is a turnaround from a disappointing last few races to give them two medals so far on the season, while Gatt and Schöpf took bronze for their third medal on the year.

Despite the commanding victory, Wendl felt like there was more left on the table.

“We’re really happy with our day today,” Wendl lamented. “Both runs weren’t very good at the top but we risked everything in the second run. We even did seven paddles which we’d never done before!”

Orlamünder and Gubitz were fourth, Bots and Plume fifth, and Müller and Frauscher sixth.

The United States placed both of their teams in the top ten with Zack DiGregorio and Sean Hollander in ninth, and Marcus Mueller and Ansel Haugsjaa in tenth.

Canada’s Devin Wardrope and Cole Zajanski finished 14th in their return to action.

With three races to go in the World Cup season, Wendl and Arlt hold a commanding lead over Gatt and Schöpf. Bots and Plume sit third, Eggert and Müller fourth, and Müller and Frauscher fifth.
