Heraskevych Appeals Withdrawing by IBSF to CAS

From Milan, ITA

(February 12, 2026) – Hours after being removed by the IBSF jury for a violation of IOC Rule 50, Ukraine’s Vladyslav Heraskevych registered an appeal to CAS to allow him to compete in the men’s skeleton event.

As previously reported, Heraskevych intended to slide with a helmet designed as a memorial to athletes who had died during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The IOC stated that this was a violation of Rule 50, which states when and where athletes may participate in a protest or demonstration.

Heraskevych’s appeal states that his exclusion is disproportionate, unsupported by any technical or safety violation and causes irreparable sporting harm to him.

An instagram post from earlier on Feb. 12 where he used the caption “This is the price of our dignity”

He’s asking CAS to to reinstate him into the 2026 Olympic Winter Games and allow him to perform supervised official runs to get him caught up with the remainder of the men’s skeleton field.

Given the urgency of the matter, CAS has appointed a Sole Arbitrator to consider the matter urgently, and a decision is expected relatively soon.

Usually CAS appeals at the Ad Hoc Division at least take a couple of days to be considered, but given the urgency should be ruled on by the end of February 12.
