Lambacher Brothers Win Season Finale, Title in Thriller

(February 20, 2026) – In what was destined to be the race of the weekend in Jaufental, Matthias and Peter Lambacher edged out Maxmilian Pichler and Nico Edlinger to win their second race of the season and second World Cup title.

The one heat race was effectively a race-off for the title, with Lambacher and Lambacher trailing Tobias Paur and Andreas Hofer by just five points coming into the day. Pichler and Edlinger was third in the points coming into the final race, but could still take the title with a win and some help.

It was a one-heat race that was kicked off by Gabriel and Samuel Halcin. The Slovakian duo put down a respectable time of 57.10 on a clean run, but just without the speed of the contenders.

Pichler and Edlinger were next. With a strong start, the Austrian duo easily slid to the lead, but would have to wait to see if they’d get the help to win the title.

The Lambachers needed to beat out Paur and Hofer. They were next off, and were just ahead of Pichler and Edlinger early on. A small skid midway through their run set them behind the Austrians, but a nearly flawless bottom quarter of their slide gave them the lead by just .04 with Paur and Hofer still to go.

Paur and Hofer pulled off the top .2 slower than their Italian teammates and bled time early on. Their bottom part of their run was consistent as they matched the Lambachers turn for turn, but their early deficit was insurmountable as they slid to third, giving the Lambachers the win and the title.

“It has been a very difficult season for us,” Matthias Lambacher said after the race. “Things never really went smoothly. That makes it all the more special to win the big globe with a victory.”

The race was quite possibly the duo’s final as a pair.

“Today was probably our last race,” Peter Lambacher said. “We’re leaving the door slightly open, but I don’t think we’ll be back on the start line next winter.”

In the seven races through the World Cup season, Matthias and Peter Lambacher medaled in all but the opener. Paur and Hofer finished the season in second place, 25 points back with their lone slipup in Deutschnofen.

Pichler and Edlinger finished the season in third after missing Passeiertal due to injury.
