FIL World Cup – Double’s Luge – Race 2

From Lake Placid, USA

The second round of the FIL World Cup stops in Lake Placid this weekend, but it was a familiar set of faces atop the podium in double’s luge.

Much like the season opener in Igls, Germans Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken dominated the race in Lake Placid, setting the only two times under 44 seconds.  Teammates Tobias Wndl and Tobias Arlt found their way into the top three with two solid runs after a disappointing fourth place finish in Igls.  The Austrian team of Penz & Fischler took third, moving up two spots after a fifth place first run.  The Latvian team of Sics & Sics took fourth, while silver medalists in Igls, Yuzhakov & Prokhorov took fifth for Russia.

Despite the home ice advantage, Americans Matthew Mortensen and Jayson Terdiman had a tough first run, coming across in eighth.  A much better second run, though, moved the duo up into the top six, in sixth place.  Teammates Justin Krewson and Tristan Jeskanen finished 13th, while Canadians Tristan Walker and Justin Snith finished 9th for Canada.
