2014/2015 FIBT World Cup – Women’s Bobsled – Race 4

From Königssee, GER

All season long, it’s seemed that the only way Elana Meyers Taylor was going to be beat is if she beat herself, and that happened in Königssee.  In Run 1, the American pilot (along with Cherrelle Garrett) set both a start record and track record on the Bavarian track, and it seemed as though Run 2 would be a cakewalk.  There is, however, nothing like a cakewalk on the Königssee track.  Through the chicane after Kreisel, Meyers Taylor went over, and that flip, however brief, cost her a win.

Meyers Taylor’s loss was Cathleen Martini’s gain, as the German took the first women’s bobsled gold medal for someone other than the Americans this season. Elfje Willemsen scored a best-ever finish one week ago, and backs it up with another silver medal for Belgium, while Anja Schneiderheinze of Germany put two German sleds on the podium.

American Jazmine Fenlator was the top scoring American in fourth, while Kaillie Humphries took fifth for Canada.  Meyers Taylor took sixth.

Jamie Greubel Poser also took a hard hit, flipping in almost the exact same place as her teammate.  Greubel Poser, however, was unable to cross the line for a time. Victoria Olaoye led the way for Great Britain in 10th, with teammate Mica McNeill in 11th.
