2014/2015 FIBT World Cup – Two-Man Bobsled – Race 8

From Sochi, Russia

A couple of remarkable seasons in the World Cup tour came to a head this weekend in Sochi, Russia. Oskars Melbardis took his first two-man overall title, while Rico Peter took his first ever World Cup gold medal.

In a very tight final run, Rico Peter at one point had fallen back behind the big Latvian, but the Swiss pilot charged back with a very clean bottom half of his run, pulling away to beat Melbardis by .13. Melbardis took silver, and with it the two-man overall title.  The man Melbardis was racing for that title was Beat Hefti, who took bronze. Canadian Justin Kripps and American Steven Holcomb round out the top five.

Nick Cunningham made it two US sleds in the top ten, while Codie Bascue finished 11th. Chris Spring finished 14th for Canada.
