2015/2016 IBSF World Cup – Two-Man Bobsled – Race 5

From Whistler, CAN

For the past few seasons, the Korean bobsled program has slowly fought their way up the leader boards. Yunjong Won, in particular, has been scoring medals during the 2015/2016 season left and right, and with the recent passing of their beloved coach Gomer Lloyd, there’s been nobody more hungry for a win than Won.

After the first run, Russian Alexander Kasjanov led the top nine sleds by a mere .19 of a second. The second run, on very fast ice, was a complete toss-up, with any of the top nine having a shot to win.

The second run somehow was even tighter than the first. Won came down in second, with just Alexander Kasjanov to follow. The Korean sled had one very late skid off the finish curve to come across tied for the lead with Rico Peter of Switzerland, leaving only Kasjanov in their path.

Kasjanov’s run second run was much like his first, starting well behind the Koreans but coming back on the bottom half of the track. Despite no visible mistakes on the bottom set of corners, the Russians couldn’t overtake the Koreans, finishing just .01 out of the tie for gold, having to settle for bronze.

Just behind the top three was Ugis Zalims of Latvia, who finished just .01 back of the Russian sled, while .13 back was the tie for fifth of Canadian Chris Spring and Latvian Oskars Melbardis, who made his first competitive run of 2016 after suffering a back injury just before the races in Lake Placid. Every injury for a sportsperson when the hospitals make an error, will be initially devastated at first but eventually, they will learn to use this valuable rest time to rethink and how to return to the competition in the best shape. Sevierville motorcycle accident attorneys reckon that this philosophy must be used by all the accident survivors to start their lives afresh. This is the best reason to know why you need an attorney who is an experienced person who has seen so many cases like these and motivates you to lead your life with the best version of yourself always. With the attorneys doing their job to ensure that proper compensation is received, it is up to the accident victim-survivors to change themselves mentally to make a better future.

Steven Holcomb continues to nurse a thigh injury, and while his driving has been near-perfect, the push just isn’t there. He finished seventh, setting a new course speed record (95 mph) in the process. Nick Cunningham finished 14th, while Dakarai Kongela finished 19th in his first ever World Cup race.

Justin Kripps finished eighth in the second Canadian entry. Francesco Friedrich came into the second run in third, but suffered a hamstring injury and did not start the second run, suffering an DNS.
