2015/2016 FIL World Cup – Team Relay – Race 5

From Altenberg, GER

When your relay team is the four people who won gold at a track all in the same weekend, odds are you’re going to do pretty well in the team relay event.  Needless to say, Germany walked out on top.

Despite a second-fastest start to the race by Tatjana Hüfner, the German squad quickly took the lead on the efforts of Felix Loch. Doubles gold medalists Eggert & Benecken locked the gold medal by over .3 with their run.

Mitchel Malyk helped move Canada into a silver medal with his strong performance in the second leg of the relay, moving the team up from fourth after the women’s run. Walker & Snith, who finished fifth in the doubles event, held heir ground to help take second place.

Eliza Cauce got Latvia out to a great start, as she had the fastest time for the women. Arturs Darznieks struggled a little, with the team falling back, before the doubles team of Sics & Sics rallied to move the Latvians into the bronze medal position.

The American team of Erin Hamlin, Chris Mazdzer and Mortensen & Terdiman finished sixth.
