Potsdam (RWH) –   Former shot putter Petra Lammert has joined the German women’s bobsleigh team as brakewoman. The Potsdamer Neueste Nachrichten reports that the 2009 World Indoor Champion started training in Potsdam with regional coach Jörg Weber and the other German Bobsleigh, Luge, and Skeleton Federation (BSD) brakewomen back in February 2011.

The 27-year-old, who ended her shot-putting career in the autumn of 2010 after an elbow injury, will join the team of Sandra Kiriasis, 2006 Olympic Champion and three-time World Champion. “We want her on our team in future,” said Germany’s national coach Christoph Langen in an interview with the Thüringer Allgemeine.

The other back-seaters in Kiriasis’ team are Stephanie Schneider and Berit Wiacker. Selection races for the World Cup season, which kicks off in early December, will start on 22 October
