2016/2017 FIL Natural Track World Cup – Doubles Luge – Race 3

From Moscow, RUS

For the first time in well over three years, Patrick Pigneter & Florian Clara have gone two races in a row without a gold medal, and for the first time in just as long, they failed to medal at all.

The Russians didn’t fare well in either men’s or women’s luge, but they dominated in doubles. Pavel Porshnev & Ivan Lazarev took gold, just ahead of Aleksandr Egorov & Petr Popov to take gold. Eogorov & Popov managed to stay well ahead of the Austrian duo of Christian & Andreas Schopf, who finished with a bronze medal.

Pigneter & Clara failed to find speed anywhere in Russia as a team, and finished sixth. Their finish not only left the Italians out of the medals, but it also dropped them out of the World Cup lead. Porshnev & Lazarev leave Moscow 5 points ahead of the Italians.
