Alvis Brants won the first para-bobsled World Cup race of the season for Latvia, edging Canadian Lonnie Bissonnette for gold.
Brants and Bissonnette came into the second run tied for second behind Race 3 winner Barry Schroeder. Schroeder ran into major trouble at the bottom of the Lillehammer, leaving the door open for the duo tied for second.
In their second run, Brants and Bisonnette were again almost equal, but this time Brants had the advantage by .02 to take gold, while Bissonette finished with a silver medal. Schroeder finished with a bronze medal.
Lauris Zutis finished fourth, while Austrian Andreas Kapfinger finished fifth, and Canadian Brian McPherson sixth.
Jason Sturm,, Dave Nicholls, Aaron Lanningham, and Joshua Merryman all finished in the top 20 for the United States, while Corie Mapp finished ninth for Great Britain.
