From Königssee, GER
The stellar season for the North American women continued in Königssee.
Elana Meyers Taylor and Jamie Greubel Poser came into the second heat separated by just .13, with Canadian Kaillie Humphries just behind them. On the outside looking in was German Mirama Jamanka, who has come on strong on the second half of the season since being paired up with brakewoman Annika Drazek.
On that second trip down, Humphries made one crucial mistake at the end of the “bendaway” straight, with a big skid scrubbing off speed toward the bottom of the track, and dropping her out of the medals behind Jamanka.
That left the door open for the Americans. Jamie Greubel Poser had one small mistake in her first run out of the S4 curve. That was cleaned up on the second run, putting the pressure on Greubel Poser’s teammate, Elana Meyers Taylor. Meyers Taylor answered the call, though, and put down a flawless run of her own, pulling away from Greubel Poser on her way to victory.
The win is Meyers Taylor’s third in a row.
Alysia Rissling finished ninth to help put two Canadian sleds in the top ten. Christine de Bruin finished 16th in the final Canadian entry, one spot behind American Brittany Reinbolt.
Lien de Decker of Belgium flipped in her first run, with the sled coming to a stop just meters from the finish line leading to her DNF.
